Sea Shadows Ultraviolet Cylinder Inspection Light
Attention all Cylinder Inspectors; with the advent of Enriched Air Nitrox cylinders now in the "field" ( and under the sea ), we are all faced with the annual re-inspection of cylinders in oxygen service. Until now, we have been forced to re-clean these cylinders in order to affix an evidence of inspection sticker which states that " This cylinder has been cleaned for 100 % oxygen service". Inspectors NEED to be able to inspect for oxygen compatibility without having to clean the cylinder at each inspection interval. Having to inspect "oxygen cleaned" cylinders, "cleaned" elsewhere ( not by yourselves ) and to verify your own cleaning processes, according to CGA's G - 4.1 guideline, required the production of " Sea Shadows' Deluxe Ultraviolet Florescent Cylinder Inspection Light". The florescent ultraviolet light wand easily fits inside of all current o'ring sealed cylinders ( NGS 3/4 & NGS 7/8 ). The bulb in the wand emits black, long wave ultraviolet light with wave lengths between 320 & 380 n m ( 3200 - 3800 angstrom units ) peaking at 365 n m. Inspection for 100 % oxygen compatibility becomes quick and efficient. The Ultraviolet light clearly shows unacceptable contaminations even in a freshly tumbled clean cylinder with only moderate pitting. The Ultraviolet inspection light operates on 8 AA batteries, or with a 12 volt D C power converter.
